Memecoin week is a dated edition: one table, three coins, one moment. This week it is PEPE, WIF and BONK, three of the largest memecoins by market value, read side by side from the same source at the same minute. The point is not to pick one. It is to show what the usual numbers on a memecoin page actually measure, how far they move in a month, and which risks never show up in a price table at all.

Data as of 12:42 UTC, 27 Oct 2026. Powered by CoinGecko API. Every number in the table was read by script from the CoinGecko public API and pasted as printed, not typed by hand.

The three coins in one paragraph each

PEPE. A frog-themed token that CoinGecko lists as launched in April 2023, native to Ethereum and also bridged to other networks. CoinGecko shows total and maximum supply at the same figure, about 420.69 trillion tokens, all of it counted as circulating.

WIF (dogwifhat). A Solana-based memecoin that, in CoinGecko's description, "was launched anonymously in November 2023". The meme is the name: a Shiba Inu wearing a pink knitted hat. Total, maximum and circulating supply are the same, about 998.9 million.

BONK. A dog-themed memecoin on Solana, launched on Christmas Day 2022. According to CoinGecko, it "distributed 50% of the total supply to Solana community members" through an airdrop. CoinGecko's own BONK page is not fully consistent on supply: its statistics panel shows about 88 trillion, while the description refers to a 100 trillion total. When two numbers disagree on the same page, check the project's own documents before relying on either.

What each number measures

Price. The last price CoinGecko aggregates across the venues it tracks. With supplies in the trillions, PEPE and BONK trade at fractions of a cent. A low unit price says nothing about how cheap or expensive the coin is; it is mostly a result of how many tokens exist.

Market cap. CoinGecko's methodology defines it as price times circulating supply. That is why PEPE, at $0.00000433, still has a market cap of $1.82 billion: there are about 420.7 trillion tokens. Market cap is a label, not a pile of money. Nobody could sell all the tokens at today's price.

24h volume. The sum of trading volume across the exchanges CoinGecko tracks, over a rolling 24 hours. PEPE's $233.2 million against a $1.82 billion market cap is a busy market for its size. BONK's $24.5 million against $263.9 million is thinner. Reported volume is a starting point for judging liquidity, not proof of it: it does not show how deep the order books are at any one moment.

From all-time high. How far the current price sits below the highest price CoinGecko has recorded. All three are far below their peaks: PEPE by 84.6%, BONK by 94.9% and WIF by 96.3%. These are coins that have already been through long, deep drawdowns.

Rank. The position by market cap among all the assets CoinGecko lists. It moves every time any coin around it moves.

Reading the week

Three things stand out in this edition, read calmly:

  1. The 24-hour column is quiet. All three moved by 0.3% in a day, one up and two down. A quiet day is not information about the next one.
  2. The month tells a different story from the week. WIF is down 10.6% over seven days and 28.2% over thirty. BONK is up 2.4% on the week but down 19.2% on the month. PEPE is up 1.9% on the week and down 3.1% on the month. Short windows and long windows can point in opposite directions at the same time.
  3. Size and depth are not the same thing. WIF has a smaller market cap than BONK, at $178.5 million against $263.9 million, but more daily volume, at $53.0 million against $24.5 million. Which coin is easier to exit in size depends on the order books, not on the rank.

None of this says what happens next. Memecoin prices can move by double digits in a day, in either direction, for reasons no table captures. For how to read one of those days without panicking or chasing, see what a sharp 24-hour drop actually tells you.

What the table does not show

The US Securities and Exchange Commission staff, in a statement of February 27, 2025, described meme coins as crypto assets "inspired by internet memes, characters, current events, or trends", noting that they "typically have limited or no use or functionality" and that "their value is driven primarily by market demand and speculation". That framing is worth keeping in mind, because the risks that matter most are not in the columns above:

RiskWhy it is not in the tableWhere to read more
LiquidityMarket cap and volume do not show order-book depth or how much of the trading pool can be pulledLocked vs burned liquidity
Holder concentrationA handful of wallets can hold a large share of supply; a market data API does not show thatHow to check a token before you buy
New supplyCirculating and total supply match for all three today, but for newer tokens scheduled releases can add supplyToken unlocks explained
CustodyA price says nothing about where your tokens are held or who controls the keysSelf-custody 101
Position sizeA coin that can fall far from its peak needs a size you can live with if it doesPosition sizing

For PEPE, WIF and BONK, CoinGecko counts the whole supply as circulating, so there is no visible unlock overhang in this snapshot. That is a statement about supply only. It does not make any of them safer, and the checks in the rug pull guide apply to every memecoin, large or small.

How this edition is made

  • One source, one minute. All prices and changes come from a single call to the CoinGecko public API, read by a script in our repository, at the time shown above.
  • No hand-typed numbers. The script rounds and formats; the table above is its output.
  • No levels, no forecasts. We do not publish price levels or projections for any coin in this column.
  • Attribution. Market data is provided by CoinGecko under its API terms, which ask for visible attribution.

This is a dated snapshot, not a forecast. The numbers were already out of date a minute after they were read.

FAQ

Why compare PEPE, WIF and BONK?

They are three of the most traded memecoins on two different chains: PEPE on Ethereum, WIF and BONK on Solana. Putting them in one table, from one source at one time, makes the differences in size, volume and drawdown easy to see.

Why is the price of PEPE or BONK so small?

Because the supply is enormous. PEPE has about 420.7 trillion tokens and BONK about 88.0 trillion in circulation. Market cap is price times circulating supply, so a tiny unit price can still add up to a large market cap.

Does a high market cap mean a memecoin is safe?

No. Market cap is price times supply, not money that exists to pay out holders. It does not show liquidity depth, holder concentration or who controls the trading pool. Use the checks in our rug pull guide for that.

Where do the numbers in this column come from?

From the CoinGecko public API, read by script at the time stated at the top, and attributed to CoinGecko as its terms require. We do not edit the figures by hand.

Is this a recommendation to buy or sell?

No. It is a dated snapshot of public market data, with no price levels and no forecasts. Nothing here is financial advice.
